Kilimanjaro

Kathryn did it!

We are always amazed by the great lengths people go to to support our work. Last year, Kathryn Smith climbed Mount Kilimanjaro in Tanzania with family and friends and she decided to fundraise for us as part of the challenge. We were delighted to hear from Kathryn recently to tell us how she got on:

We did it!! Reaching the peak of Kilimanjaro will always be one of the most memorable events in our lives. It was made even better by the fact that all of our group reached the summit together on 12th September 2015 at 07:45am. The view was fantastic and the sunrise close to the top was amazing.

It’s hard to choose the best bit of the trip, obviously apart from reaching the top, as it was all such a great experience! It was fantastic getting to know our guides who were crucial in helping us reach the summit and the different terrain each day was wonderful to see. Although fantastic, the trek didn’t come without its challenges. We walked between 5-8 hours per day at varying levels of altitude and completed some challenging climbs along the way.

I raised £535 for Book Aid International, I would certainly love to complete another challenge and raise money for this fantastic cause.

Congratulations to Kathryn and her party for successfully scaling Kilimanjaro, what an achievement! We’d like to thank Kathryn for fundraising for us – her support means we’ll be able to send over 260 brand new books to a library in sub-Saharan Africa which might otherwise have empty shelves.
