Step into your next challenge!

With the pandemic bringing the world to a halt, fundraising might not be top of your agenda right now. But without the valuable donations made by our wonderful supporters, we are unable to continue our work.

Many people around the world have been left without access to books due to the pandemic and with schools and community libraries closing their doors for months, it’s now more vital than ever that our work continues. Despite the many challenges created by the virus, over the past few months, the determination and creativity of our supporters to raise the next pound has continued to amaze us.

We can’t thank each and every one of you enough for helping to support reading worldwide. It’s because of you that we were able to send over 867,000 books in 2020 and we’re on target to beat that number this year!

Below, we’ve taken a look at some of the most popular and inventive fundraising-from-home ideas. Read on to get inspired!

1. Do a sponsored readathon

What better way to spend time stuck indoors than reading a good book. We heard from fundraiser Lucy, 13, who told us how her love for reading lead to her embark on a challenge to read 20 books over 4 months!

I was looking at the books on my bookcase and I thought of all the children without books and how they were missing out… books educate you, transporting you to another place and new worlds.

2. Set a team challenge

Whether it’s running, walking or cartwheeling – why not take on the challenge to change lives through the power of books, one step at a time.

With spring approaching and socially distanced walks now allowed, there are no excuses left! We caught up with the brilliant SAGE sales team, who decided to walk 1,000 miles to raise money that will be used to send books to those who need them most. Check out their efforts here.

3. Get gaming

You can turn any activity you love into a fundraiser, and that’s exactly what Anthony did by doing a gameathon charity livestream. He told us a little more about why he decided to fundraise for us:

I believe that everyone should have the chance to read all sorts of books! They inspire creativity, teach history and all in all make the world a bit better.

4. Creative cut

Calling all business owners! One way to support our work is by donating a proportion of proceeds from a specific product.

One brilliant example of this is the recently published art directory, ‘Drawn Vol4: Leaders in Contemporary Illustration’ by Capsules Book. Contributed to by Artist such as Faye Greenman, profits from sales are going to help provide books to those who need them. Check it out here.

If this has inspired you to get fundraising, you can find lots more information here or get in touch. No matter what you want to do, we are here to support you, so why not pick an idea, set a target and follow Lucy’s advice: “go for it!”
