A message from our Chief Executive

Last year, we made the decision to move to a larger distribution centre. In this blog, our Chief Executive Alison Tweed provides an update on that move.

As many of you will know, for nearly 40 years now our UK headquarters has been our warehouse in Camberwell, London, from which we send over 1.2 million books to our partners every year.

In 2024 we took the decision to move our warehouse operations to a purpose-built distribution centre out of London, to give us more space to work more efficiently and safely and greater physical capacity.

In October 2024 we sold the Camberwell warehouse and in February this year invested the funds in a building on an industrial estate in Swindon, Wiltshire.

From this new base we plan to support more partners around the world and grow and deepen our impact, bringing the joy of reading to even more people who would otherwise have no access to books.

This is a big step for the charity, and it will occupy us for some time. We are currently in the process of fitting out the new distribution centre and anticipate being operational from our new Swindon base around October 2025.

Meanwhile we are continuing to work as normal from our HQ in Camberwell, where we are on an 18 month lease. Our fundraising, communications, programmes and partnerships, finance and administration staff will remain in our current Camberwell office until April 2026, possibly longer.

We will of course keep you updated on new contact details ahead of making this move and this very important and exciting next step for our charity. For now, it is business as usual.
