Join us at The London Book Fair

We’ve been dedicated to promoting literacy and access to books for over 65 years and The London Book Fair provides us with a unique opportunity to connect with friends old and new to share the power of books. Below, hear from our new Head of Operations, Mark Simpson, about this year’s three day event.

After joining Book Aid International a month ago, I’m excited to attend my very first London Book Fair this April at the London Olympia.

I’ve always loved books. I can remember hiding under the duvet as a kid reading adventure stories and being transported to exotic lands, far away. Now, I’m a parent and love seeing how much enjoyment my daughter gets when we read a book together. It is a real joy to work somewhere that encompasses that love of reading.

I may have only been here for a few weeks, but I can already see how incredibly important publishers are to reading around the world. Publishers donate all of the books we send to readers worldwide – so everything we do has publisher-donated books at its heart.

Every day I have the pleasure of seeing what books come into our warehouse. What I haven’t yet done is have the opportunity to meet many of our publisher partners! We’re supported by publishers large and small, who together enable us to send over one million books to readers worldwide each year. Through our collective efforts, we can empower individuals and communities to build brighter futures. We always are in need of more books to send to more readers, so are constantly seeking new publisher partners. Find out about donating books here

We will have a stand at The London Book Fair this year, where visitors can learn more about how we work, and I’m really looking forward to attending the many interesting talks and panels where I can network, learn, and discover new insights and ideas.

But more than anything, I want to connect with existing book partners and explore new opportunities to work together towards our shared goal of promoting literacy and access to books.

If you are attending the fair and would like to chat with us, please do stop by our stand – number 3C87 – or contact me on the details below to arrange a meeting. You’re also most welcome to attend our drinks reception hosted by The Publishers Association from 4:40 pm – 6 pm on the 19th of April at stand 6G55.

We’re looking forward to celebrating the power of books with you.
