Head of Communications (Maternity Cover)
At Book Aid International we share the power of books and help create a more equal world. Every year we provide over one million brand-new books to thousands of communities where people have few books, or no books at all.
As Head of Communications, you will play an essential role in helping give more people around the world the chance to read.
- Salary: £52,000 – £55,000 depending on experience
- Contract: Fixed-term maternity cover (12 months)
- Place of work: Hybrid – Camberwell office / home working

Reporting to the Chief Executive and managing one direct report (Communications Manager) you will have overall responsibility for the communications function in the charity and be a member of the Senior Management Team.
In your role, you will deliver 2024’s ambitious communications plan in line with our 2022 – 2025 communications strategy and play a critical role in building public awareness of our work, supporting income generation and managing our brand.
We are looking for a highly motivated and experienced communications professional with a real understanding of the challenges charities face and a commitment to our values.
About you
- You’ll be a quick learner who enjoys working in a fast-paced environment in a multi-faceted role
- You’ll have considerable experience managing charity communications at or above manager level
- You’ll be a flawless copywriter who is also skilled in supporting colleagues of varying levels to produce great copy
- You’ll have extensive experience of managing, negotiating and liaising with suppliers
- You’ll be skilled at managing internal and external stakeholder relationships
- You’ll have experience of securing press coverage
- You’ll be a great multitasker and have an unshakable can-do attitude
