A new Children’s Corner in Ghana!
Thanks to funding from RELX, we’ve been working to transform Accra Central Children’s Library in Ghana into a thriving child-friendly space.
The tired, old space which only had a limited selection of worn children’s books is now a bright, welcoming space filled with brand new books for children to discover.
For many families in Ghana, books are an unaffordable luxury and the local library is often the only place where children have the opportunity to access books. This dedicated space for children gives them the opportunity to discover the joy of reading, access the books they need for their education and gain confidence as readers.
The library opened to the public last week, with a celebratory launch event to welcome the whole community to the new range of up-to-date books.
“Parents, teachers and school children who attended the official opening of the Children’s Corner could not hide their joy seeing the total transformation of the facility. The place now has colourful tables, chairs, shelves and attractive murals. The environment is now welcoming and very serene. The Children’s Corner has been stocked with new reading materials that meet the needs of all ages. Staff of the Children’s Library have also been re-trained to serve the children in a more professional manner.”
Thanks to Book Aid International and RELX Group for assisting with funds and new reading materials to transform the Children’s Corner into an attractive and welcoming facility in the community.”

With thanks to RELX, whose support has enabled this exciting transformation.
“At RELX, we believe in universal and sustainable access to information. That’s why for over 20 years, we have supported the work of Book Aid International, whose mission is to ensure that everyone has access to books. Seeing how our donation was used to transform the library space in Accra Central Children’s Library and provide children with a selection of beautiful, brand new books is so inspiring.”
We are extremely proud to support this wonderful charity.
