Take part in Story Space

Taking part in Story Space means creating a magical space for pupils to read for a day – and sharing your school’s love for books.

Create your own Story Space

There are three simple steps to setting up your story space, and sharing your love of reading with children around the world.

Choose a date and activity

From a PJ day to a reading fort in the assembly hall, you decide on what your school’s story space will be.

Decide how to fundraise

Our Story Space pack has plenty of ideas, and every £2 raised sends a brand-new book.

Send books

After you pay in your fundraising, we’ll send you a certificate letting you know how many books you helped to send.

Why your Story Space matters

Veronica is growing up in Liberia’s capital, Monrovia. Her family can’t afford to buy books for her, and if not for our charity her school would have only a few textbooks. The books you help us send will help her and so many others like her achieve their dreams.

When I grow up, I want to be a journalist. Learning how to read, it will help me become a journalist. I know it will help me.

What support is available to me?

Our fundraising pack includes everything you need to make your Story Space a success – from inspiration to practical how-to top tips. And our friendly fundraising team is always happy to lend a hand as well!

When is Story Space?

Many schools will be taking part in the week before autumn half term. This is when we will be sharing lots of stories of schools taking part across our website and social media. But don’t worry if there’s a different date that works better for your school. Taking part is what matters most!

How will my fundraising be spent?

The funds you raise will help cover the costs of sourcing, storing, selecting and shipping books to over 25 countries. We have strong relationships with the UK publishing industry, so all of our books are donated free of charge.

What will I receive in return?

Your school will receive a certificate letting you know how your fundraising has helped, and we’ll send you regular newsletters featuring stories of the people who use the books you help to send. You can tell us how you want to hear from us when you sign up.

What types of books are sent?

We only send brand new, up-to-date, relevant books. Over half are children’s books to help children discover the joy of reading. We also send leisure reading books for all ages, vocational titles, higher education books and medicine and healthcare texts.

Who is going to receive my books?

We send books to libraries in schools, refugee camps, communities, prisons and hospitals in some of the world’s most marginalised communities, where there are no or very few books.
