Shelves of books

Meet the supporters

Capsules Book, a boutique publishing house in Melbourne Australia has been helping us send books to readers across the world since 2017. They donate all the profits from the sale of their physical books and so far they have helped to send over 250 brand new books to readers in places that face the greatest barriers to reading.

We caught up with Communications Manager, Michelle Brook and the rest of the team at Capsules Book to learn more about the organisation and why they wanted to support our work:

Capsules Book

Can you tell us a bit more about yourselves?

We are an independent boutique advertising and publishing company, originally founded in Melbourne in 2016. We’re a small (but perfectly formed!) team of book lovers with a passion for art and design.

Our company produces premium printed artist directories with the aim of introducing illustrators, designers and artists to global businesses who hire creative services. We love working with creative individuals and teams from around the world.

So are we right in thinking you’re all avid readers?

Yes, absolutely!

I (Michelle) was an avid reader from a young age and books have been my constant companion offering escape, inspiration and instruction. I think reading is one of the greatest and most enduring joys of life.

What are your favourite books?

Kayle our Creative Director’s is Galápagos by Kurt Vonnegut; Kristen, Gloria and Bashir from our Artist Relations team are are the Harry Potter series by J.K Rowling, Faucault Pendulum by Umberto Eco and The Godfather by Mario Puzo.

Mine is The Chronicles of Narnia; even though technically it is seven books. I have an edition that includes the stories all in one volume, so hopefully that means this is a valid answer! I first entered the world of Narnia when I was a very lonely and shy eight year old. It opened my eyes to a magical universe full of friends and adventure, where ordinary children could be transformed into warriors and protectors. I still read The Chronicles of Narnia today and I never tire of hearing about my favourite characters.

How does Capsules Book support our work?

We donate to Book Aid International 100% of the profits from the sale of the physical books we publish.

What motivated Capsules Book to choose us as the charity you support?

We greatly admire the work that Book Aid International does and as a publishing company we wanted to support a charity working in a similar industry.

Thanks to supporters like Capsules Book, we’re able to send new books to libraries around the world in places where readers would otherwise struggle to access new reading materials

How does it feel to know that your support is helping people around the world who would otherwise not have books read?

It is wonderful to support Book Aid International and help facilitate their work promoting literacy around the world. We enjoy reading the updates from the global teams and seeing how their work is benefiting people.

What would you say to someone who was thinking about supporting us as you have?

We’ve been very happy to support Book Aid International and as a publishing house it’s great to be able to support a charity who promotes literacy.  We hope to continue this partnership for many volumes to come and we wish the Book Aid International the very best in their endeavours.
